About The Course

This course is designed for adults with learning difficulties and additional needs.

You will:

  • Develop cooking skills and master a variety of techniques
  • Learn about Food Hygiene and its importance in the food preparation environments
  • Plan meals, shop for the ingredients, and prepare the meals in our newly fitted kitchen
  • Learn about food service and housekeeping in preparation and completion of tasks
  • Have the opportunity to practice your customer service skills in our kitchen and a during service events

What Will I Study?

You will study:

  • Food preparation and basic cooking skills
  • Hygiene in the kitchen
  • Food safety and how to store food correctly
  • Basic customer service

All the topics you will cover are transferable to all environments including home or in a workplace, as well as generally preparing you for adulthood.

What Will I Need?

There are no qualifications required but an Initial Assessment will be carried to ensure course appropriateness. Proof of support needs and/or previous support received.

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods based on course requirements and individual needs.

For example:

  • Observations
  • Workbooks
  • Practical activities
  • Questioning
  • Peer feedback

Throughout the course, you will be gathering evidence/information in each unit. There are different methods that evidence can be gathered to meet individual needs.

What Will It Cost?

Adults - ENTRY LEVEL/LEVEL 2

This course may be free if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions for at least 12 months.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course, but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

Some courses have other additional costs, such as for specialist materials and trips.

What Can I Do After?

This course provides employability skills within catering and hospitality to prepare you for further study or employment.
